Responsible Tourism in Natural Areas
Directed towards:   
A more general audience, including practitioners of responsible tourism in non-government organizations, governments, private enterprises, rural communities, as well as, owners and managers of natural areas.

General Objective:
- To introduce the participants to the fundamental concepts and problems of Responsible Tourism and recreation in natural areas, covering the aspects of planning, qualification, financing and management.

Particular Objectives
- To establish a relation between society, natural resources and recreation.
- To learn about the current state of the activities in Mexico and in the world
- To learn about tourism best practices and to appreciate potential new ways of using nature.
- To provide training in planning responsible tourism in nature.
- Recognise the elements necessary to carry out an integrated project where the cultural and    environmental impacts are diminished.
- To identify the potential trail circuits and areas to develop tourism in nature in Mexico.

Duration: 40 hours. 4 hours weekly during 10 weeks.

Content:
- Current ecological situation – The need to preserve the natural resources. Resources in risk.   Relation between ecology and tourism
- Society, recreation and adequate cultural use of the natural resources. Brief review of the   experiences in Mexico in tourism.
- Ecotourism, Rural Tourism and Sustainable Tourism: Definitions, reaches and development in the   world and Mexico.
- Legislation and policies of sustainable tourism. National strategies that promote and/or limit rural   tourism.
- How to plan responsible tourism in rural environments. Relations with agricultural, forestry and   migration
- Identification of natural, historical and cultural resources and attractions
- Development of human resources in the planning of the tourism in natural areas. Training   Programs
- Construction of infrastructure and undertaking environmental studies.
- Environmental aspects that must be part of an integrated project. Water and forests  management, renewable energies, waste management
- Reducing of cultural and environmental impacts.
- Best practices for creation of parks and construction of infrastructure.
- Guidelines to start up an enterprise of tourism in the nature in one of three forms: communitarian;   association with private initiative; with ejidos and private property.
- Identification of potential circuits and areas to be developed.
